Not only is the most hyper-endemic malaria region, Central Vietnam is also reported as a hot spot of parasitic diseases infection such as Fascioliasis, Clonorchiasis, Baylisascaris, Gnathostomiasis, Ascariasis, ect. Confronted with the people's morbidity of these diseases, right from 2004, the leaderships of the IMPE Quy Nhon took the initative in petitioning the Ministry of Health (MoH) to be allowed to open the specialist clinic for receiving and treating patients from the regional provinces.
In order to meet the people's needs of medical examination and treatment according to the Institute's request, the MoH has instructed the Examination and Treatment Administration Department and other concerned departments to examine and allowed the IMPE Quy Nhon to open the specialized clinic with the initial target of 20 beds.
Over six years of operation (2005-2010), the staff of the Institute's clinic has increased constantly in both graduates and post-graduates serving in the medical examination, testing, treatment and consultancy for patients. Besides the professional expertise staff, the Institute's directorate has invested in modern equipments for the examination, testing and diagnosis, such as ELISA immune testing, 36-parameters biochemical machine, 28-parameters hematology machine, 4-dimensional colored ultrasonic scanner, gastro-entero endoscope, high-tech diagnosis by molecular biological technique (PCR) ... so all parasitic diseases such as Fascioliasis, Clonorchiasis, Taeniasis, Strongyloidiasis, Gnathostomiasis, Ascariasis, Necatoriasis, Ancylostomiasis, or larval diseases like Baylisascaris, Cysticercosis are diagnosed quickly and patients could be treated timely.

Since 2003, Fascioliasis infection in humans has been increasing, especially from 2006 to now, the situation has been at an alarming level because patients in some provinces in Central Vietnam increased sharply, while the anthelmintic drugs for Fascioliasis - Egaten 250mg was scarce, bringing about great pressure of patients to the Institute's clinic. Confronted with the complicated situation of Fascioliasis, in addition to the implementation of the research on epidemiology, diagnostic techniques and treatment regimens for Fascioliasis, the leaderships of the IMPE Quy Nhon has directed the clinic to strengthen receiving patients, scheduling appropriate treatment for each case in accordance with patients' clinical level, and reported the disease situation to the MoH and the World Health Organization (WHO) for being supported with Egaten 250mg to treat patients free.

In the first 4 months of 2010, patients coming to the Institute's clinic increased ceaselessly, including those who were from the provinces of Central Vietnam and other areas nationwide.

Thus, just in 4 first months of 2010, the number of patients examining and treating at the clinic has increased continuously, especially those infected with parasitic diseases such as Baylisascaris, Ascariasis and Gnathostomiasis. Confronted with this situation, the leaderships of the IMPE Quy Nhon have strengthened their staff of doctors and technicians to the clinic for the examination, testing and treatment in a timely way. The Institute's staff not only has carried out scientific research in the field but also been ready to settle the pressure from patients.
From May until now, due to hot and muggy summery weather, patients from provinces across the country are coming in ever-increasing numbers with an average of 300-350 patients diagnosed and treated every day, making the medical work really hard; however, the physicians of the Institute has worked wholeheartedly and attended patients conscientiously.
The operations of the Institute in recent years is consistent with the policies of the Party and State as well as with the medical needs of people. In the coming time, the IMPE Quy Nhon will continue to promote the strengths of experienced technical and scientific staff, high-tech and modern equipments in the diagnosis and treatment of parasitic diseases, enabling people to benefit from the in-depth medical services and actively contributing in serving the public health.
