Evaluation of malaria situation in the first 5 months of 2010
In spite of the direction of leadership from IMPE-Quy Nhon and the provincial malaria control centres/provincial centres for preventive medicine, the changeable weather has createdfavourable conditions for the development of vectors. In May and first 5 months of 2010, the increase of malaria-causing agent (malaria parasites) and the appearance of main malaria-vectors in malaria-endemic areas raised risk of outbreaks. Therefore, the Institute must direct the provinces to strengthen malaria control measures and epidemiological surveillance to prevent outbreaks from occuring.
The situation of Fascioliasis and other helminthiasis
In May 2010, there were totally 3,937 patients coming to seek diagnosis and treatment at the clinic. Among the patients, 78 cases were treated with Fascioliasis, accounting for 1.98%, the remaining patients were diagnosed and treated with other common helminthiasis such as Toxoplasmosis, Strongyloides stercoralis, Taenia solium, Gnathostoma stercoralis. |

Dengue fever situation
In first 5 months of 2010, dengue fever situation was at high risk of outbreaks in several provinces of Central Vietnam such as Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue, Gia Lai; especially Phu Yen and Binh Dinh had the dengue outbreaks in some of districts.
Dengue outbreaks were mainly due to uncontrollable vectors (i.e Aedes agypty) in association with changeable weather and the people's ineffective application of larvicidal measures.
