Lately, the seminar on infectious and parasitic diseases was held by SEAMEO-TropMed Regional Centre for Public Health, Hospital Administration, Environmental and Occupational Health. Participants to the seminar included the researchers in the field of communicable and parasitic diseases and experts of international and domestic organizations; they also made speeches and reports with important topics pertaining to recently emerging infectious diseases.
The posters and presentations taking the two-day seminar concern were mainly focused on the following topics:
- Tuberculosis and other respiratory tract infections;
- Dengue and other arboviral diseases;
- Leptospirosis and other zoonotic diseases;
- Diarrheal and other gastrointesinal diseases;
- Opportunistic infections in the immunocompromised host;
- Malaria and other protozoan infections;
- Schistosomiasis and other helminthic diseases.
The seminar, chaired by Dr. Lydia R. Leonardo - Headmaster of the College of Public Health and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 5th ASEAN Congress of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology, took place successfully, providing domestic and foreign participants with useful knowledge and experience for their handling of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases containment in Southeast Asia.
