On December 11th 2012, the launching ceremony on malaria control was held in Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province in order to propagandize and improve the understanding of the community in malaria control with the presence of the local people and officials, students from primary school, junior high schools of Dak O commune, Bu Gia Map district.
The launching ceremony was held according to the direction of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and concerned institutes including the provincial People's Committee, the Department of Preventive Medicine, the National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology (NIMPE), IMPE - Ho Chi Minh city, the Provincial Health Service and the People's Committee. The Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and Deputy Minister of Health participated and launched the campaign. Besides, the ceremony also had the attendance of the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), the leaders of departments of the MoH, leaderships of the IMPE-Quy Nhon and the representatives of Dak Nong, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Tay Ninh. The ceremony was televised live on Binh Phuoc province Radio and TV.
In the first ten months of this year, the malaria situation in Vietnam was relatively stable. In some provinces of the Central region, however, the malaria morbidity still increased. Especially, the Southern Region - Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc province had 1,596 infected cases in 2011, in which Bu Gia Map was the commune having highly-increased proportion of malaria parasites in the first ten months of 2012 and even drug resistance of malaria parasites. Therefore, the campaign was launched to enhance the people's awareness about the danger of malaria and drug-resistant malaria in the local province in particular and the whole country in general, thereby drawing the detailed plan to control and prevent malaria effectively.
After finishing the launching ceremony, the Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien visited and gave presents to malaria patients at Dak O communal health centre. The Minister directed the Health Service to coordinate and manage private health services, control of fake malaria drugs, not sell malaria drugs with artemisinin-based monotherapy and strengthen health education and communication such as sleeping under bednet, drinking malaria drugs, managing mobilised people. Moreover, the Minister requested the NIMPE to make the national project of malaria drug resistance for the whole country.
After the launching ceremony, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien visited and gave the gifts to the malaria patients who were being treated in Dak O Medical Station; worked with the Bu Gia Map district People's Committee to grasp the local malaria situation. The Minister directed the provincial medical branch to coordinate and manage private health services, control of fake malaria drugs, not sell malaria drugs with artemisinin-based monotherapy and strengthen health education and communication such as sleeping under bednet, drinking malaria drugs, managing mobilised people. Moreover, the Minister requested the NIMPE to make the project of malaria drug resistance for the whole country.
