According to the Department of Preventive Medicine (Minnistry of Health), the results of DF/DHF epidemiological supervision including monitoring of patients, sera and viruses and vectors at several selected sites in April 2011 as follows:
Monitoring of DF/DHF patients
In April 2011, the whole country recorded 1,747 DF/DHF cases and no deaths, compared with March 2011 and April 2010the morbidity reduced by 24.7% and 38.7%, dealth decreased by one and four cases, respectively; the DF/DHF morbidity rate in children under 15 was 56% (about 979 cases).
Within the first 4 months of 2011, there were 12,797 cases of and 9 deaths from DF/DHF,, which increasing by 1.9% in the morbidity and reducing by 3 cases in death as compared to the same period of 2010 (12,563/12).
South Vietnam
This region has got the highest number of DF/DHF patients with 1,592 cases (accounting for 91.1% of the country's morbidity), 13.9% lower in comparision with the same period of 2010; no DF/DHF dealths were recorded.
Some areas with high morbidity and mortality in April were in Ho Chi Minh City (380/0) and An Giang province (200/0)
Central Coastal area
The whole region reported 104 cases of DF/DHF, accounting for 6% of the country's morbidity, increasing 7.7 times in comparision with the same period of 2010 (807/0); no dealth was recorded.
West Central Highlands
This region had 20 cases of DF/DHF in April, accounting for 1.1 % of the country's morbidity, decreasing by 76.7% against the corresponding period of 2010 (86/0); no death were recorded.
North Vietnam
The whole region reported 31 DF/DHF cases, accounting for 1.8% of the country's morbidity, reducing by 71.6% in comparision with the same period of 2010 (109/0); no dealth was recorded.
Serum and virut surveilance
In April 2011, there were 406 serum samples tested by Mac-Elisa in the whole country, of which 160 were positive (acounting for 39.4% of the total tested samples); particularly in South Vietnam 122 over 289 samples were positive dengue sera (accounting for 42.2%), Central Coastal area 34/70 (48.6%), West Central Highlands 2/3 (66.7%), North Vietnam 2/44 (4.5%). In the first 4 months of 2011, 446 of 1,150 serum specimens tested with Mac-ELISA were positive (38.8%) in the whole country.
Vector surveilance
The vector indices have maintained highly in South region (BI = 37.3 ; DI = 1.6) and been still lower in Central Coastal area (BI = 13.1, DI = 0.1), North Vietnam (BI = 1.7, DI = 0) and West Highlands (BI = 12.7, DI = 0.3).
Several DF/DHF monitoring sites with high vector indexes included Vynh Quang, Kien Giang (BI = 94, DI = 1.0); Tan Duyet, Ca Mau (BI = 58, DI = 1.6); Phuoc Long, Bac Lieu (BI = 58, DI = 0.9); Thanh Loc, Kien Giang (BI = 86, DI = 0.9).

DF/DHF control activities
The institutes of hygiene epidemiology and Pasteur held training courses on epidemiological surveilance and handling of DF/DHF focus for regional provinces;
Surveying and evaluating the distribution of vector population; testing the chemical resistance; providing insecticides for the campaign of insecticide spraying; monitoring the plan of DF/DHF control at localities; supporting severely-hit provinces in DF/DHF prevention; etc.
