Confronted with the situation of dengue fever / dengue haemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) cases increasing and DF/DHF outbreaks tending to spread in many provinces in late 2010, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has decided to provide insecticide and equipment for the emergency prevention of dengue fever at severely-hit provinces of Central Vietnam.
According to the MoH's decision, the institutes of preventive medicine system (Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang, Institute of Malariology Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon-IMPE Quy Nhon) and 11 severely-hit provinces of Central Vietnam (including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) have been provided 4,431 litres of K-Othrine 2EW (French-made insecticide), 65 carrying-over-shoulder sprayers of ULV model Portastar Fontan (German's products) and 52 mosquito attracting machines model MX-991/U (produced by American) which were purchased with the budget of the projects of DF/DHF control and DF/DHF outbreaks prevention in 2010. Upon the receipt of these insecticide and equipment, they will be used in the emergency implementation of DF/DHF prevention from now to the end of 2010 in key areas.
With the support of insecticide and means of epidemic control, the Department of Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang and the IMPE Quy Nhon have inspected and directed the DF/DHF control in Khanh Hoa province from August 17, 2010. The inspection and direction team has mainly focussed on control activities at the localities with high morbidity of DF/DHF, worked with the Provincial Health Service and Provincial Preventive Medicine Centre of Khanh Hoa with the purpose of updating DF/DHF situation and assessing the implemented measures and plan for dengue fever prevention.
